When deploying a K9 on a leash or long line handlers are frequently met with unpredictable and hazardous environmental conditions. Making the transition from either a track or from a search to an apprehension, the handler must quickly decide between two of the conventional deployment methods listed below.
Drop The Lead
Lead can become entangled with the environment rendering the K9 ineffective.
Manually Detach The Lead
Slower and frequently one-handed
The K9 must give up ground and be drawn back to the handler
May expose the handler and K9 to potential risk without cover.
