I have K-9 partner "Dexter" who is narcotics and patrol trained. I had an opportunity to use the K-9 Quick Release at a recent training session, and was able to utilize it in many scenarios to include: tracking, building search and handler protection. The beauty of this device is the ease of which it attaches to my K-9's harness and/or collar. Also the remote can be easily attached to my exterior tactical vest or could be attached to the standard duty belt.
This device gives the handler the ability to freely release the K-9 from the end of the leash or long line with the push of a button. In tracking the huge benefit for me was that I could quickly and freely release my K-9 from the tracking line to apprehend a fleeing suspect. I found it extremely beneficial in a building search because I can put myself in a cover position, to extend my K-9 out to the end of the long line for search or guard deployment. When I needed to freely deploy my K-9 I was able to do so by the press of a button on the remote and maintaining control of my leash or long line. This takes away any possibility of the suspect using the leash / long line against my K-9 partner.
In summary I would highly recommend this device to every K-9 Handler. I believe this device is the modernization of deployment for the Police K-9.
I've been a K-9 handler for the past 4 years. During this time I have been in situations where to obtain an apprehension I had to drop the leash or long line. Using the K-9 Quick Release in the same situation I would've been able to freely release the K-9 to prevent any entanglements. I used the K-9 Quick Release over the past week and found it to be an incredible tool. I specifically used it in training on a track where the decoy jumped a small fence. As I was tracking, my K-9 saw the decoy, at this point I was going to deploy my K-9. I was concerned about the possibility of my line being entangled with the fence. I pressed the remote to freely release my K-9 and he was able to leaped the fence for the apprehension without the leash attached. This device is truly a benefit to the Police K-9 Handler.
I am a retired Police Officer / K-9 Handler ( Greater Cleveland Transit Police) in Cleveland Ohio, and am currently employed as K-9 Handler / Trainer with a private company. I have been using the K-9 Quick Release device in many training scenarios, for evaluation. The K-9 Quick Release device has many applications for the K-9 Handler. This device gives the Handler the ability to freely release the K-9, from the leash / long line via the push of a button on the remote. This gives the Handler the ability to maintain cover, apprehend a suspect at a distance beyond the leash / long line, while maintaining control of the leash / long line. The device has the durability we need in the field with minimum weight added to the leash. The remote can be attached to external vest carriers or duty belts.
How often are we as handlers dropping the line or bringing the K-9 back to us for a release.............. This device puts that control in your hands!
I am a Senior Officer on our full time SWAT Unit (16 years) with a SWAT Trained K-9 partner "Polo". While at a several recent training sessions my Team had the opportunity to use the K-9 Quick Release. This device provided us the ability to send my K-9 out in front of the stack, while the team maintained position and cover. In one of the scenarios we responded to a irate male at the end of a long hallway. When we observed the male, he was not responding to our verbal orders at which time K-9 "Polo" was deployed to the front of the stack and advisements given to male regarding compliance or being bitten by the K-9. The male turned and began to run away from my Team. I pressed the remote to freely release the device from K-9 "Polo" which involved no furtive movements on my part for deployment. Male was immediately apprehended.
I highly recommend this device!!! In all my years on SWAT and as a K-9 Handler this device has unlimited possibilities. My Team Members stated that they could see many utilizations of the K-9 Quick Release.
I have been a K-9 handler with the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority Police Department for the last six years. My current K-9 partner is "Kubo" who is dual purpose K-9, certified in explosive detection and patrol trained. I have used the K-9 Quick Release during multiple training sessions which have included tracking, building search, and deploying the dog from the bottom of a stairwell while behind cover. This device is very easy to use, and easily attached to Kubo's harness. When I needed to deploy Kubo during these sessions I could without fear that his long line would snag on something along the way. Once activated the Quick Release opened up and allowed the long line to fall away from his harness. The remote which could be activated with one hand to allow for leash/ long line control was also very easy to use and could be easily attach to either my exterior tactical vest or my duty belt. Because of these qualities I would highly recommend this device to any K-9 Handler.
